Relationship & Couples Counselling

Couple relationships can be one of the most rewarding yet difficult relationships we can encounter in our lives.

With the preoccupation and demands of our daily lives, being in a relationship can sometimes cause us a lot of stresses and pressure. This can include feeling as though you’re growing apart or being torn in different directions relating to work, friends, family members, children or future plans.  These stresses and pressures can have a detrimental effect on our couple relationships - sometimes making time for each other and creating a balance can be very hard indeed!

Either attending as a couple or individually for those who perhaps aren't currently in a relationship, Relationship Counselling can support each person to reflect and recognise the areas that have been affected in their lives and within their current or previous relationships, helping guide you to reconnect again in this hectic world we live in.

Every one of us is an individual and we can sometimes forget this in a couple relationship, creating expectations and demands of the other. Competing or clashing viewpoints can impact on how we react and respond to each other.  When we get into this ‘rut’ we forget to appreciate and acknowledge the other person.  This ‘rut’ often means we are no longer Connecting, Communicating or Listening.  Without these three key ingredients including not feeling heard by our partner we can easily begin and feel, isolated, lonely and resentful. These destructive emotions can begin to create bad patterns and cycles of behaviours we can get stuck in.

There are also our childhood experiences that can affect our behaviours and the way we experience relationships.  More often than not we are institutionalised by our upbringing and the relationships of others around us. These shape our ideas of relationships, love, values and behaviours.

A client once said to me…

“You’re institutionalised by your parents - you grow up, attract them, marry them and become them!”

“What a thought!!” Some of you might be saying to yourselves, although thankfully through the awareness and reflection gained in counselling, this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case.

At TLC Counselling we believe that the most important thing is to realise is that many of the trials and tribulations faced in relationships are completely normal and many people find themselves in need of support at various times in life.

We’ll help you not to feel alone.  Our role is to support individuals (whether single or in a relationship) and couples to explore their difficulties in a safe environment by identifying with you the areas you feel stuck in and how to move forward with your life.
